Tumblr

For those who Tumbl, I am posting more and more sketches and random comics over on my Tumblr these days. Though I have many reservations about the platform, and will never move there completely because frankly I think its days are numbered, I like the way people use Tumblr as a sort of process page or a sketchbook for ideas.

You can read the rest of the above comic here.

Takin’ two

Really inspired by the shapes of James Kirkpatrick these days, which turned into these birds which turned into this bear playing guitar and setting under a tree.

Also, here is a really great review Maclean’s magazine wrote about Jinchalo this week.

Spaced

Right now I’m illustrating a children’s book about anxiety and monkeys.

In the meantime, there’s this Television interview with me about Jinchalo on Space TV – which is a Canadian sci fi channel.

Book launch poster

Sending this off to be screen printed by the great Simon Bossé right now.

Society of Illustrators 54

One of my illustrations for The Where, The What & The How: 75 Artists Illustrate the Wondrous Mysteries of the Universe (Chronicle Books, 2012) was selected to be included in the Society of Illustrator’s 54 – Book and Editorial Exhibit, as well as for publication in the annual.

The Where, the Why and the How: 75 Artists Illustrate Wondrous Mysteries of Science

The book asks scientists and artists to answer common questions about the world. My question was, If humans and chimps have nearly identical DNA, how can we be so different?

Jinchalo

So I finished this book this week and sent it off to the publisher! It’s about 120 pages of wordless comics – and a companion to my first book, Ojingogo. The “story” is stand-alone though and is a sort of very loose retelling of the Jack and the beanstalk fairy tale with elements of Korean folk tales and comics with a lot of my own dreams and other nonsense thrown in.

Drawn & Quarterly posted a little preview here.

The book should be out in February, 2012.

Here is what the finished page checklist looks like. I had one of these for ojingogo too. It becomes worn and tattered and filling in a square or two at the end of each day is a great feeling.

Nobrow 6

The new Nobrow anthology is out and it looks gorgeous and it’s all about doppelgangers. I am honoured to have a comic in there with them. My comic is called ‘How did you meet’?
