One of my illustrations for The Where, The What & The How: 75 Artists Illustrate the Wondrous Mysteries of the Universe (Chronicle Books, 2012) was selected to be included in the Society of Illustrator’s 54 – Book and Editorial Exhibit, as well as for publication in the annual.

The book asks scientists and artists to answer common questions about the world. My question was, If humans and chimps have nearly identical DNA, how can we be so different?

So I finished this book this week and sent it off to the publisher! It’s about 120 pages of wordless comics – and a companion to my first book, Ojingogo. The “story” is stand-alone though and is a sort of very loose retelling of the Jack and the beanstalk fairy tale with elements of Korean folk tales and comics with a lot of my own dreams and other nonsense thrown in.
Drawn & Quarterly posted a little preview here.
The book should be out in February, 2012.
Here is what the finished page checklist looks like. I had one of these for ojingogo too. It becomes worn and tattered and filling in a square or two at the end of each day is a great feeling.

The new Nobrow anthology is out and it looks gorgeous and it’s all about doppelgangers. I am honoured to have a comic in there with them. My comic is called ‘How did you meet’?

(Here’s a larger version). This my piece for year’s 48 hour comic. The theme was revolution. I had to do it in one day though due to the book deadline – but it was great to get out of the studio and see all the inspiring artists working on this project. Read more about the 48 hour comic here. The full newsprint broadsheet is launching at Expozine this year.

Arcade Fire for The Walrus magazine which is out now. The illustration accompanies a poignant feature article by Drew Nelles about the recent history of Montreal and the band. Art director: Paul Kim
