Trailer for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Probably the best film I’ve seen this year. My short review here.

Expozine Round-up

expozine sketch

Alright, so Expozine was awesome this year. It was two days instead of one, so it was much more relaxed and laid back than last year’s event.

I sat with John Martz, Allene Chomyn, Rachel Costain and Aaron Costain. Johnny and Allene led the way in making some awesome comic jams at our table. The final jam-comics are up on Johnny’s Flickr page. They make me laugh.

I didn’t have any new comics for sale this year. But I was selling prints of my illustrations. I was really happy with the reaction to the prints. The printer allows me to custom print anything now at a very high quality – that means I’ll be taking commissions of illustrations too. So if there’s anything you see in my Flickr gallery or on my blog that you’d like a print of, please email me and we can work out a price.

This year I thought it might be a fun project to a big collage of people from Expozine. My pal, Dany, gave me a huge roll of paper and I started drawing whoever would let me. Each portrait took about four minutes, but I was surprised at how few people were willing to let me draw them. Anyway, the above sketch is the result of my grand project. It’s a couple feet high, but there are way fewer people than I wanted. Rachel and Aaron are in there too.

I prefer Expozine to mainstream comic conventions; because frankly you get to meet a truthful sample of people at something like Expozine. There are families, kids, hipsters, nerds – the same mix you’d see walking down the sidewalk in Montreal.

Really nice to see everyone and get away from my computer/drawing table for the week-end. Congratulations and thanks to Billy Mavreas and Louis Rastelli for another great event.
