Vancouver International Film Festival - Day one
We flew into Vancouver yesterday for the film festival. The festival organizers are the friendliest people I’ve ever met. They sent a driver to pick us up at the airport and everyone is treating us like gold.
Our short film is premiering on Monday and the screening is sold out. Which is fantastic, but now we have to hustle to make sure we have seats for everyone. The Birthday Girl herself, Gabe Gilker, is flying in from Montreal for the screening. And Shane Geddes, the DoP, will also be there with his family.
Erin did an interview yesterday with a local radio station while I sat in the hotel lobby and drew pictures of stuff. (For interested Vancouverites, the interview is airing on 107.9 FM 9AM - PST).
Lots of great films playing this week. Here’s a list of the flicks I’m hoping to catch:
- London to Brighton - Our driver recommended this so we checked it out last night. Excellent storytelling - and gritty British film-making.
- Les 3 Petits Cochons, (Thur Oct 4 230pm) - New Quebec film by Patrick Huard.
- Redacted, Brian De Palma Oct 4 945
- War on Democracy Oct 6 1pm
- Persepolis (Marjane Satrapi) (October 7 7pm) - This is already sold out, so I’ll have to try my luck in the rush line.
- Bodybuilder and I (Oct 9 Tuesday 1030AM) - A fun-looking doc about a guy who becomes a bodybuilder at the age of 60.
- I Met the Walrus - Animated film by our pal, James! Johnny blogged about this on Drawn.
- Up The Yangtze - The NFB’s flagship documentary for this season. The trailer looks amazing.
- Where did you last see your father? - Oct 8 11AM
