Here’s an illustration I did for the current issue of the McGill News alumni magazine. It accompanies an article about researchers who have linked a part of the brain to sadness.

Here’s the rough. Surprisingly, it took me a while to come to this.

Here’s the pen + ink on bristol. I cut out the brain and painted the clouds on black bristol board with some Deleter White. My hands got messy for this illustration, so it was a lot of fun.

And here’s the final. I added several layers of brushwork. I wanted the image to be as organic and rich as possible.
