Piracy and Internet Security – Montreal Mirror cover illustration
by matt
I did the cover for this week’s Mirror, an arts weekly here in Montreal. This was a fun opportunity for me, because I actually read the Mirror every week and so do most of my friends.
The concept. At this point Chris, the art director probably should have panicked and called someone else.

The Rough – This looked imbalanced to me, but I imagined the text would be left-heavy as it usually is. I should have focused on the illustration.

The line work – I inked the final with a T-3 nib. I’m really happy with the character of the lines here, but of course it got lost in the colours. I’ve got to learn to think bigger with my concepts and illustrations.

And this hacker’s got a Slashdot tattoo. I love Slashdot.

Here’s the low-res cover. This issue is on stands today and will be haunting me in subway stations and cafés around the city all week.
