Birthday Girl wrapped

Shooting wrapped on Birthday Girl last night around 10pm.

This is a shot of Elizabeth playing the cello at her sister’s birthday party. (For my storyboard of this shot, check here). The actress, Vanessa, is actually a professional cellist. This was the first shot of day three and I’m not sure if the crew was prepared for the fact that one of the best cellists in Montreal was actually going to perform one of Bach’s cello suites - because when she finished, after a stunned silence, the whole house broke into applause.

It was an exhausting, wonderful four days. I signed on to the shoot as a set decorator (I really wanted to have some input on the production design), but I ended up doing anything that needed to be done at any given time. These things included: picking up/dropping off cast from the metro station, picking up miscellaneous items for the unit manager, hanging out with the parents and the kids who were waiting to be called to set, a bit of set decoration, some background direction for the actors (lots of fun), and, (the most fun of all) reviewing story details with Erin whenever necessary.

Erin did a spectacular job directing the film. She was very focused and in tune with the actors and all the shots I saw through the monitors were absolutely stunning; thanks to a top-notch cast and crew.

Keep up to date with developments over at the Birthday Girl production blog.
