Amazing DVDeals!

So I just discovered there’s a Korean company licensing some of the greatest movies ever made, stripping the surplus expense of fancy packaging and selling the DVDs for 5 bucks each.

For less than $30, I picked up:

Wages of Fear (D: Henri-Georges Clouzot) - Perhaps my favourite movie of all time; easily in the top five. A taut, suspenseful chiller about a couple down-on-their-luck labourers who agree to drive a truckful of nitroglycerin over some treacherous terrain. 5 bucks!

The Lady Vanishes (D: The Man) - My favourite Hitchcock film and - I think - his first. A woman befriends a little old lady on a train. The old bat goes missing and everyone on the train denies she ever existed. The drama builds to such a pitch that the mystery can only be solved by a gun-battle with nazis in the woods. 5 bucks!

Young and Innocent (D: The Man) - Haven’t seen this one. 5 bucks!

The Importance of Being Earnest (D: Anthony Asquith) - Haven’t seen this one either. But note that it’s the original Asquith version; none of that Rupert Everett pap for me. 5 bucks!

Lost Highway (D: David Lynch) - Ashamed to say I haven’t seen this one either. But if it’s half as good as Mulholland Drive, I’m in for a treat. 5 bucks!

Gimme Some Truth: The Making of John Lennon’s Imagine (D: John & Yoko) - I’ve seen this one dozens of times. I never get sick of watching John order Phil Spector around. Thought I better dig deep and buy it. Not that deep - only 5 bucks!
